The mobile school falls under the Community Service Learning Centre of Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra.. It began for children who did not get an opportunity to read and write and had to support their families from very young age.
It is a bitter fact that children as small as seven years of age have to support the family. They are denied their basic rights to education because of a poor family background missed or lack of opportunities. Besides, the present educational system cannot cover all the children. The percent of children outside the school exceeds the number of children going to school.
For whom?
The Mobile School is for children who did not get an opportunity to read and write and for the children who are compelled to support their family.
As obvious by its name the mobile school, is a school in a bus. The bus carries all the materials required for teaching from desks to blackboard and goes to different places.
In other words, the children do not need to come to school rather the school comes to them.
How is it run?
A big bus goes from place to place each for two hours and the mobile school facilitator arranges things in a way that it becomes easy to teach all the children attending the school. Children are given note books and also playthings. There is also a library for children that includes story books, information on children etc.
What topics are covered?
- Literacy programs,
- Health camps, dental camps, classes on children rights.
- Educational trips.
Currently,
The Mobile school was run in five different places in Kathmandu. Presently, it is being run in Thali, Gokarna and Jorpati with 171 children. Joyful yells and shouts of little children can be heard from a distance when the yellow bus of the mobile school nearsthe places. The children look quite glad to be a part of the mobile school. The mobile school has been a helping hand to the children who cannot attend schools. Children as small as three years of age also attend the mobile school.
