Bikalpa visualizes a programme for the girls by realizing
resource available wisdom and Knowledge that are there,
the technology and skills which are existing in the
community......... a programme which will enable them
to be able to discover the potentialities they have
within themselves and within their own community, strategies
which they could implement, resources available within
their own community and technologies and skills of which
they are experts and for which they don't need to depend
on others.
Five Living books
Bikalpa has been carrying out various activities for the children. Someof the glimpses are:
- First Bikalpa Group from Dhading:
We have completed the first group of girls from Dhading, in the northern part of Nepal. dhading is one of the 75 district which is about 232 km from kathamndu. We had 18 girls in the first group and all of them have gone back to their villages. All of them have joined Std 6. I4 of them are in dhading waiting for Bikalpa to be established, two of them are already working as a teacher of Adult Literacy Class in Dhading with four of them are in BIkalpa, Kathamandu for further training in Administration and Management of Bikalpa since they are going to be theincharge of Bikalpa inDhading. They are studying in grade 7 in Mornign School in Shram Madhyamik Vidhyalaya at Kumarigal in Baudha. They taught the girls of the second group.
VI. b. Second Bikalpa Group from Lalitpur and Morang:
The second group was from Lalitpur and Morang. We started the 2nd group with 27 girls but later two girls dropped because their mothers died and they had to go back tot their village to take car eof their younger brothers and sisters. The second group completed their programme on Jan 4th 1999. This was a special group because the four girls from the first group of dhading took the responsibility to teach the second group. The second group was much easier in terms of management because of the experience we had accumulate with the first group. We had a draft of course too. Now thesecond group have gone to thir villaged and are waiting for Bikalpa to be opened intheir district nad also for the school session to begin so that they can admit themselves in grade 6th in formal school in their district.
The Methodology and the approach
Our country is one of the poorest countries. Majority of the parents cannot feed their children. Education is a privilege that cannot be dreamt by poor parents. Government takes loan and aids, which hardly is meeting the need. The approach Bikalpa is approaching is Earn and Learn. Learning and earning without spirituality will make people greedy. So it is based on the spirituality will make people greedy. So it is based on the philosophy of the small is beautiful. It is the development of everyone together at every step. It is the development based on Human Values and the development of the Head, HEart nad the Hands. It is development from within.

The class as obvious by its name is a class open to little children who do not get an opportunity to read and write due to their family problems. The class is open to to any child who wants to come join and admissions are open everytime.
